Phuket
Phuket, on the quiet side of the island.
Most visitors never see the Phuket we write about: the western headlands, the hidden bays, the villas where the only sound is the sea.
Phuket has two faces. One is crowded and loud. The other runs along the far west and north of the island, where a few hotels own entire headlands and their guests rarely meet anyone else. That second Phuket is home to the first Aman ever built and some of the most private pool villas in Asia.
We favour hotels with direct sea views, real privacy between villas and a sense of place that goes beyond a pretty pool. Every property here is a short drive from the airport, which makes Phuket the easiest ultra luxury beach in the region.

Where to base yourself.

The quietest beaches on the island, close to the airport.
Kamala and Emerald Bay
Hillside retreats minutes from the livelier west coast.
Practical
Before you go.
- Getting there
- Phuket International (HKT) has direct flights from Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Gulf and seasonal routes from Europe. Most of our hotels are 20 to 45 minutes away.
- When to go
- November to April is calm, dry and sunny on the Andaman side. May to October is the green season: some rain, rougher seas and much lower rates.
- Getting around
- Hotel cars and private boats. Phang Nga Bay and Koh Yao Noi are an easy day trip by speedboat.
- Our tip
- Ask for a villa on the upper rows of a hillside resort. The view is wider and the privacy is better.
