Thailand · Our home city
Bangkok
Bangkok, after the heat breaks.
Seven of the finest city hotels in Asia, most of them on one river. We live a short boat ride from most of them, which is why this is where the collection begins.
Bangkok rewards the guest who chooses the right address. The riverside hotels along Charoen Krung and the Thonburi bank trade the traffic of the business district for boats, temples and long views at dusk. A short way inland, a handful of garden estates in Ploenchit and Lumphini prove that silence is possible in a city of eleven million.
We judge Bangkok hotels on three things: how the arrival feels, how quiet the room is at night, and whether the place could only exist here. Every hotel below is chosen against all three.
Know the city
Where to base yourself.
Riverside
Charoen Krung and the Thonburi bank. Old Bangkok, boats, temples and the grand hotels.
Ploenchit and Lumphini
Garden estates and modern towers, minutes from the park and the embassies.
Dusit
Royal Bangkok. Wide avenues, palaces and a slower pace.
Practical
Before you go.
- Getting there
- Suvarnabhumi (BKK) has direct flights from Europe, the Gulf, Australia and most of Asia. Allow 40 to 70 minutes to the river by car.
- When to go
- November to February is the cool, dry season and the best time for the river. March to May is very hot. June to October brings short, heavy afternoon showers and the lowest rates.
- Currency
- Thai baht (THB). Cards are accepted everywhere at this level.
- Our tip
- Arrive by boat if your hotel offers it. The river at copper hour is the best introduction to the city.
