The garden city
Singapore
Singapore, perfectly kept.
A city that runs like a grand hotel, home to one of the most famous hotels on earth and an island resort a few minutes from downtown.
Singapore is the stopover that deserves more than a night. It is safe, green and extraordinarily well run, with some of the best dining in Asia and a short list of hotels that are destinations in their own right.
Our Singapore edit is deliberately small. We choose between the colonial grandeur of the civic district and the calm of Sentosa, and we tell you honestly which one suits your trip.
Know the city
Where to base yourself.
Civic district
Colonial landmarks, museums and the Padang, a short walk to Marina Bay.
Sentosa
An island of resorts and beaches, joined to the city by a short causeway.
Marina Bay
The modern skyline and the waterfront promenade.
Practical
Before you go.
- Getting there
- Changi (SIN) is one of the best connected airports in the world. Downtown is 20 to 25 minutes by car, Sentosa about 25.
- When to go
- Warm all year. February to April is usually the driest. Rates rise sharply during the Grand Prix in September and around major conferences.
- Currency
- Singapore dollar (SGD). Rates usually exclude 10% service charge and 9% GST.
- Our tip
- Pair two nights in the city with two on Sentosa. It feels like two holidays without a single flight.
