Italy, the lake and the coast.
Lake Como in the north and the Amalfi Coast and Capri in the south, two of the most loved stretches of water in Europe, with hotels in historic villas and family run houses.
Our Italian hotels are in two places. Lake Como, in Lombardy, has grand villas and their gardens on the water, an hour from Milan. The Amalfi Coast, in Campania, has hotels built into the cliffs above the sea, with Capri just offshore and Naples about 75 to 90 minutes away.
Both are seasonal. Most hotels open from April or early spring and close for winter in late October or November. May, June and September are the months we would choose, warm enough for the water and quieter than July and August.
The two fit well into one trip. Fast trains link Milan and Naples, and many guests spend a few nights on the lake and a few on the coast, travelling by boat wherever they can.
