Lake Como
Lake Como, from the water.
Four hotels on the shore of Lake Como, three of them in historic villas. Most open from spring to autumn, and the lake is the way to get around.
Lake Como is shaped like an upside down Y, with the Alps behind it. Its western shore, from Cernobbio to Tremezzina, holds the great villas and their gardens, and the boats run across to Bellagio and Varenna.
The best hotels sit right on the water, so the lake is the view, the pool and the road. They are seasonal: most open from early spring to autumn and close in winter. May, June and September are the months we would choose.
