151rooms and private villas
Villa d'Este was built in the 16th century as a noble residence in Cernobbio, on the shore of Lake Como, and has been a hotel since 1873. It has 151 rooms in two buildings, the Cardinal's Building and the Queen's Pavilion, set in a large park.
The hotel also has private villas. Villa Cima was built in 1815 for Caroline of Brunswick, Princess of Wales, and stands right on the shore with four bedrooms. Villa Garrovo, restored in 2015, has six bedrooms and a private gym, and Villa Malakoff sits high in the park above Cernobbio.
The Cardinal Suite is named for Tolomeo Gallio, the cardinal who built the villa, and is dressed in gold and deep red.
The pool floats on the lake itself. Villa d'Este was awarded Two MICHELIN Keys in 2026.
