Soneva Fushi is on its own island in Baa Atoll, a seaplane flight north of Male, and calls itself the original barefoot island. The villas are hidden in the jungle behind the beach or built over the reef, and the largest estates have up to nine bedrooms.
The 1 Bedroom Water Reserve with Slide covers 585 square metres over the lagoon, with a slide from the deck straight into the water. On land, the 9 Bedroom Estate is more than 3,000 square metres, a house for several families travelling together.
There are more than a dozen places to eat, from treetop tables reached by zip line to dinners on the sand. A resident astronomer runs The Observatory at night. The Glass Studio and the Maker's Place turn the island's waste into art, and the resort runs a coral regeneration programme on the reef.
The Den, the children's club, keeps younger guests busy all day. Soneva Fushi holds Three MICHELIN Keys.
