French Riviera

The Riviera, at the water’s edge.

From the gardens of Cap d’Antibes to the beach and hills around Saint-Tropez, these hotels give the Riviera three different rhythms.

The French Riviera is better treated as a series of bases than a single coast. Cap d’Antibes has sea-facing gardens and a long hotel tradition. Saint-Tropez has a village, beaches and a social season that can make even short road journeys slow in summer.

Hôtel du Cap-Eden-Roc is the great headland address. Cheval Blanc St-Tropez is directly beside the water near the village. Château de La Messardière sits above Pampelonne in broad grounds. Pick one base for a short stay, or divide a longer trip between the cap and Saint-Tropez.

Getting there

Arriving in French Riviera.

Each hotel page lists its address, check-in times and the hotel's own transfer times.

Good to know

  • Cap d’Antibes and Saint-Tropez are separate bases; do not assume a quick summer transfer.
  • Hotel and beach-club opening dates vary.
  • Confirm whether the room faces the sea, gardens or village.

Practical

Before you go.

Getting there
Nice Côte d’Azur Airport is the main gateway for Cap d’Antibes. Saint-Tropez is further west; allow for summer road traffic.
When to go
May, June and September balance warm weather with easier travel. July and August are busy; several hotels close for part of winter.
Currency

Our tip
For a short stay, stay close to the beach or village you plan to use most. Summer drives across the region can take far longer than the map suggests.

Questions

French Riviera, answered.

Should I stay in Cap d’Antibes or Saint-Tropez?

Choose Cap d’Antibes for a headland hotel and easy access to Antibes; choose Saint-Tropez for its village, beaches and summer social scene.

Can I combine both?

Yes, on a longer trip. Allow a full transfer window, especially in summer traffic.
