Bali
Bali, from the gorge to the sea.
Four hotels, from the river valleys around Ubud to the cliffs and bays of the south and the quiet east coast below Mount Agung.
Bali's best hotels split between the jungle river valleys around Ubud and the cliffs and bays of the south. Amandari opened in 1989 on the lip of the Ayung River Gorge near the village of Kedewatan, designed after a Balinese village with thatched pavilions and a pool that mirrors the rice terraces.
In the south, Raffles Bali has 32 villas, each with its own pool and garden, stepping down the hillside above Jimbaran Bay, and Aman Villas at Nusa Dua has private villas of two to six bedrooms near the sea. On the east coast, Amankila sits on a hillside beneath Mount Agung, with a private black sand beach on the Lombok Strait.
