The Kronenhof stands in Pontresina, about 7 kilometres from St. Moritz, where the Val Roseg opens towards the village and the Bernina massif rises behind. It began in 1848, when Andreas Gredig bought the village inn for his son, and the family grew it into the horseshoe of three wings around a courtyard that stands today. The Gredigs ran it for 141 years. Since 2004 it has belonged to the same group as the Kulm.
The public rooms are baroque. The Bernese painter Otto Haberer painted the ceiling frescoes of the four seasons between 1901 and 1914, and the Grand Restaurant, the baroque heart of the house, serves breakfast and dinner beneath them.
There are 112 rooms and suites, many redesigned by Pierre-Yves Rochon, and several connect for families. The suites look up the Val Roseg or over the village to the mountains.
The Kronenstübli, in a traditional Engadin room, holds 16 GaultMillau points. The Pavillon serves lunch outdoors with the valley in view, and the bar on the Bel Étage opens towards the Val Roseg. The Kronenhof Spa covers 2,000 square metres with an indoor pool, a children's pool, saunas and stone grottos, and a private spa suite for two.
The Kronenhof keeps longer seasons than the hotels in St. Moritz. Its current opening runs from 12 June 2026 to 4 April 2027.
