The Kulm is where St. Moritz began. In 1856 Johannes Badrutt rented a twelve room guesthouse here, bought it two years later and called it the Engadiner Kulm, the first hotel in the village. In 1864 he bet four English summer guests that they would enjoy an Engadin winter, offering to pay their costs if they did not. They stayed until Easter, and winter tourism in the Alps began.
The hotel's history runs through the sports of the valley. The Cresta Run was built on its grounds in 1884, and the Sunny Bar, home of the Cresta riders, opened the same year. The 1928 Winter Olympics opened in the Kulm Park, and the hotel still has its own nine hole golf course, the highest in the Alps.
The suites were redesigned by Pierre-Yves Rochon. The largest, the Corvatsch Suite, is 176 square metres with a fireplace, a dining area and a balcony over the lake.
There are seven restaurants. The Kulm Country Club serves Mauro Colagreco's cooking, which mixes Alpine produce with international flavours, and Amaru serves Peruvian food. The Grand Restaurant keeps to classic haute cuisine. The 2,000 square metre Kulm Spa has a 20 metre indoor pool and an outdoor pool at 34°C looking at Piz Rosatsch.
The Kulm holds Three MICHELIN Keys in 2026. Winter 2026 to 2027 runs from 4 December 2026 to 29 March 2027, and the summer season from mid June to the end of August.
